For more than a quarter of a century, the University District Food Bank has helped prevent hunger in Northeast Seattle neighborhoods. Each week, more than 1,000 different families receive the groceries they need to prepare nutritionally balanced meals at home.

In 2008, we had more than 46,500 customer visits and distributed over 1.8 million pounds of food. Approximately 2% of our clients are infants, 20% are children, 68% are adults, and 10% are senior citizens.

Our Mission

To provide individuals and families who are in need with food and access to a network of community resources that helps them achieve self-sufficiency.

Who We Serve

Every week over 1,000 families receive groceries, toiletries and baby food and supplies from the University District Food Bank. We assist individuals and families living in the 98102, 98103, 98105, 98112, 98115, and 98125 zip codes.

Almost 60% of our customers have at least one part-time job but have a hard time making ends meet every month. These families use the food bank to extend their incomes so that they can afford other necessities like rent, electricity, prescription drugs, school supplies or car repairs.

We also serve many individuals while they are between jobs (over 30% of our customers have someone in their household looking for additional work), those living on fixed incomes, seniors, students, people with disabilities, the mentally ill, and the homeless.
